Introduction: A hospital flip is when you pop and flick the board so the griptape is on the top of your shoe, then shuv-it 180 degrees and flip it half of a flip so it is facing griptape-up again, the flip and shuv motions are all done with your front foot.

Tricks to Know:

Pop Shuvits

Optional: Kickflips

A nice hospital flip down a 4 stair, that clip is not of me.

Front Foot: Really crucial in this trick, you definitely have to expierement. I like to set mine up with a little less than half my foot on the board, curved towards the nose, and about 1 1/2 inches away from the front bolts. I find it easier to stop it with my foot, which can be the hardest part of the trick, if I have less of my foot on. Having too much of it on can also lead to the same problem, so steer clear of that. Also, I find having it curved towards the nose helps out a ton with stopping it with your foot, as does having your foot close to the bolts.

Back Foot: It really doesn't matter, as long as you know what will mess up your pop. All you have to do is pop with it then get it out of the way. So just put it how you want it, I like to put mine like I would for a kickflip, it just feels more natural for me too flick it, so it would be good to know how to kickflip for this trick, and know your stance.

Goofy Foot Placement

Regular Foot Placement

Motion: Start off by doing the obvious, popping the skateboard. Slide your foot up the board and this is where you have to make a decision, you can either kick down, making the trick sloppier but having your foot there ready to stop it, the easy way out, or flicking out, the better looking, harder way. For the first way, just remember to keep your foot next to the board and it should be really easy to stop it. For the second way, stop your foot quickly after flicking, and keep your foot there as you wait to stop the board. If done right, your skateboard should end up griptape-down on the top of your front foot, continue by shuving your foot forward and lifting your toes slightly, causing it flip and spin to a regular position and catch it. This trick should feel like it's wrapping around your foot.

Trouble Shooting:

Q. Board not being stopped, just flips like a kickflip.

A. Like I said earlier, this can be really hard for some people, just focus on keeping your foot next to your board.

Q. It doesn't flip back, and I end up landing with the graphic facing upwards.

A. Try and get it so your shuving it more with your toes, when it flips unto your foot it doesn't go too far up your foot, don't go overboard with this though, or else you'll be overflipping it. Which brings me too my next question.

Q. It overflips when I shuv my foot.

A. Dont have the board land on your foot so it's only on your toes, but like I said in the "it doesn't flip back" question, don't go overboard with this.

Q Landing in away from the board.

A. 1. In a way where your back foot makes it on the board but your front foot lands in front of it, lean further back. 2. Front foot lands but back foot bands in back of it, lean further forward. For both of these, if neither of your feet land and your just landing in front of it or in back of it, it's the same solution. 3. Land in front of it as if you were jumping forward, lean the opposite direction. 4. Landing in back of it as if you were jumping backwards, lean the opposite direction.
But basically, for all of these just lean the opposite direction, or the simplest solution, if your not centered over the board then well, become centered over it.

Overall this can come really easy to some people and not to others, just keeping practicing.
